After finishing up with Dishonored 2 I moved onto Death of the Outsider, sold as a separate game this one is the last in the installments for the Dishonored series (currently).
Going in, I had relatively high expectations that the developers really had a reason to sell this as a separate installment and not just DLC. The sort of things I was looking out for were better powers (specifically non-lethal options) and new mechanics that would separate the game aside from its previous installment, Dishonored 2.
Sadly to say, it didn’t really deliver. In the Death of the Outsider you play as Billie Lurk, which wasn’t much of a spoiler given that the cover art featured her so if you’d kept up on the story you’d realise that Billie was Daud’s right hand and seemingly going to be a continuation of the Knife of Dunwall. Sighing deeply thinking this because literally after coming off Dishonored 2 I thought the same thing, maybe the developers or the audience really enjoyed the Knife of Dunwall, and they were just doing more in case the money was there? who knows.
The story didn’t really deliver either, the connection between Billie and the Outsider was thin at the very best, I sort of understand she was wanting to help Daud out but I didn’t really feel the necessity to eliminate the Outsider the way Billie seemed to. Equally, the game wasn’t that long (in the end this was a blessing in disguise) which I thought was a little too much like DLC and this sort of felt like a cash grab.
Overall not a great way to end the franchise, I really hope that we see more of the story as I really enjoyed the aesthetic however more effort is needed!!
