Using a modern console for an ancient game!

After completing the Village a couple of people recommended to try Resident Evil 4 as it was quite highly regarded & the next in line for going through the franchise. Purchased the game on Steam along with the other games in the franchise and decided it would be a decent place to play. Wasn’t actually able to launch the game on the PC as it didn’t even display anything (probably something to do with my video card) so had to purchase the game again on the Playstation network.

Using my PS5 to play a game released in 2006, it seemed a good usage of my new hardware. The game was described to me as not the survival-horror I was expecting but more like the third installation of dead space which isn’t actually a bad thing.

The game stars Leon who has been set out on a mission to rescue the presidents daughter, Ashley …for some reason. Instead of the expected zombies we are pitted against odd villagers who are very set in trying to murder Leon and keep Ashley hostage. To unlock the ‘tough’ difficulties of the game, you have to first play the game on normal. Starting out, the game was full of loot and actually was quite easy. The game’s story and characters had sort of a comedic element that really was quite enjoyable!

The gameplay however was quite repetitive however there were no real puzzles, but the combat whilst fun didn’t really change from area to area. Managed to offset the repetitiveness by playing the game only at the weekend making it quite fresh and still fun!

After completing the game I decided to explore the ‘extras’ menu and played the game again as Ada which was comparable to Resident Evil 2 where we played through the game multiple times in order to get all the endings. This game however didn’t unlock anything story wise but was very fun to play through as Ada with her skills.

Relatively cheap on the PC (if you can get it to work) and quite cheap on the PSN, I’d recommend playing through this one if you have any nostalgia for the game or if you’d like to experience some horror-action from days gone!
