Using a modern console for an ancient game!

After completing the Village a couple of people recommended to try Resident Evil 4 as it was quite highly regarded & the next in line for going through the franchise. Purchased the game on Steam along with the other games in the franchise and decided it would be a decent place to play. Wasn’t actually able to launch the game on the PC as it didn’t even display anything (probably something to do with my video card) so had to purchase the game again on the Playstation network. Using my PS5 to play a game released in 2006, it seemed a good usage of my new hardware. The game was described to me as not the survival-horror I was expecting but more like the third installation of dead space which isn’t actually a bad thing. The game stars Leon who has been set out on a mission to rescue the presidents daughter, Ashley …for some reason. Instead of the expected zombies we are pitted against odd villagers who are very set in trying to murder Leon and keep Ashley hostage. To unlock the ‘tough’ difficulties of the game, you have to first play the game on normal. Starting out, the... Read More

I hated Devil May Cry 5

I’ve only really played the first DMC game back in the day and I absolutely loved it. The first sort of action hack and slash game I played and fell in love with the aesthetic and the story, Dante was a character I thought had a great blend of serious story whilst also adding various elements of humour. Think I did start to play DMC2 but didn’t actually finish the game for one reason or another. Coming through to DMC5 I was tempted to get back into the franchise and received the game for free after a purchase of a graphics card, stored the game away and didn’t touch it until recently. The game is stunning graphically with very smooth combat and reminded me so well of the original DMC game, got a taste that this game was a multi-character game like the original and I was excited to play through the story. The story began a little cheesy but I still held hope that I’d get to experience some seriousness along the way, after playing with Nero I got a feeling there were a lot of mechanics that were not explained well. Trucked on with the game until I... Read More

Subnautica complete!

And we're done with subnautica! what a ride! I originally wrote this game off because it was based underwater and I believe I suffer from thalassophobia which is the fear of submerged objects. Ever since I was a kid, I've always been freaked out about things submerged underwater from seaweed to fish to the idea of whales. From a recommendation by a close friend, I decided to pick this one up and attempt to get through it. What's to be scared about? what drew me in essentially was the story, the idea that it wasn't one of those survival games that didn't have any story behind it and just wanted you to play in the sandbox. The game starts off relatively easy, diving down 20 meters or so, eventually working your way down and down once you build better stuff. After you get over your original fear and have had your first encounter with these horrible 'fish' called reapers, things start to level out. The base building in this game is very satisfying, feels very futuristic and you get to do all sorts of things with your magic lasers. The story evolves and you get deeper underwater as your tech...
