The Forgotten City

After hurting my thumb recently my friend gifted me this game as it wasn't as action packed so shouldn't require much in the way of dexterity. Going in I didn't really know what to expect, didn't really ever hear about this game and for some reason always getting it confused with the Sinking City (a cuthulian adventure). This game had absolutely nothing to do with anything Cuthlian and really did suprise me. For anyone thinking about playing the game, I'll refrain from spoiling anything in this review since I feel more people should really give it a go. The game is dialogue based which means most of the time you'll be spending talking to people to discover more about what's going on. Not to say that's all of the gameplay mechanics you'll be facing but without spoiling anything I cannot elaborate. The game's story is where it really does shine, thrust into an ancient Roman city it's up to you to decide the fate of it's inhabitants. The game sort of straddles a rogue-lite element with some time travel being involved however has some mechanics that makes this element nonabrasive. The game really comes into it's own with the attention... Read More

Using a modern console for an ancient game!

After completing the Village a couple of people recommended to try Resident Evil 4 as it was quite highly regarded & the next in line for going through the franchise. Purchased the game on Steam along with the other games in the franchise and decided it would be a decent place to play. Wasn’t actually able to launch the game on the PC as it didn’t even display anything (probably something to do with my video card) so had to purchase the game again on the Playstation network. Using my PS5 to play a game released in 2006, it seemed a good usage of my new hardware. The game was described to me as not the survival-horror I was expecting but more like the third installation of dead space which isn’t actually a bad thing. The game stars Leon who has been set out on a mission to rescue the presidents daughter, Ashley …for some reason. Instead of the expected zombies we are pitted against odd villagers who are very set in trying to murder Leon and keep Ashley hostage. To unlock the ‘tough’ difficulties of the game, you have to first play the game on normal. Starting out, the... Read More

I hated Devil May Cry 5

I’ve only really played the first DMC game back in the day and I absolutely loved it. The first sort of action hack and slash game I played and fell in love with the aesthetic and the story, Dante was a character I thought had a great blend of serious story whilst also adding various elements of humour. Think I did start to play DMC2 but didn’t actually finish the game for one reason or another. Coming through to DMC5 I was tempted to get back into the franchise and received the game for free after a purchase of a graphics card, stored the game away and didn’t touch it until recently. The game is stunning graphically with very smooth combat and reminded me so well of the original DMC game, got a taste that this game was a multi-character game like the original and I was excited to play through the story. The story began a little cheesy but I still held hope that I’d get to experience some seriousness along the way, after playing with Nero I got a feeling there were a lot of mechanics that were not explained well. Trucked on with the game until I... Read More
